Just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.—I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.—Neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them.—Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds…. But that is not the way you learned Christ!—assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus…. Put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
19 I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.
15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16 And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.

Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.—“I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.”—We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.—Canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again.18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

The fruit of the Spirit is… faithfulness.
By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.—Without faith it is impossible to please him.—“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”—“I believe; help my unbelief!”
Whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may be sure that we are in him.—Faith working through love.—Faith apart from works is useless.—We walk by faith, not by sight.—I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.—Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful.
As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.—The Lord is gracious and merciful…. He remembers his covenant forever.

His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.—[Jesus] went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.—Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.

Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Get wisdom; get insight.—The wisdom from above.—“The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’”—We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.—God… made us alive together with Christ… and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
People who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.—Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility.
3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands;Or who carry out his judgment">1 seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the LORD.
4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
4 ButOr And">1 God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Evening:
Proverbs 29:25; Isaiah 42:3; Matthew 10:32; Matthew 17:20; Matthew 26:58; John 6:37; John 7:50; John 12:42–43; 2 Timothy 1:7–8; 1 John 2:28
Nicodemus, who had gone to him before.
Peter was following him at a distance.—Many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.—The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
“Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”—A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench.—“Faith like a grain of mustard seed.”
God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord.—Little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.—“Everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven.”
42 Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
Morning:
Psalm 144:5; Song of Solomon 8:14; Isaiah 25:9; Isaiah 64:1; Acts 1:11; Romans 8:23; Philippians 3:20; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 9:28; Revelation 22:20
Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down.
Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.—We ourselves… groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.—Bow your heavens, O Lord, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke!
“This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”—Christ… will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.—It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!—Our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.—But our citizenship is in heaven.
9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
“No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”—The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.—The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.—He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Walk in love.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”—Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.—Love covers all offenses.
“Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”—“Love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.”—Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles.—Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.—If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.—Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

1 Samuel 1:9–11; 1 Samuel 1:19; Psalm 47:4; Psalm 142:2; Mark 14:36; Romans 8:26; 2 Corinthians 12:7–9; Philippians 4:6
Let your requests be made known to God.
“Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”—A thorn was given me in the flesh…. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses.
I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him.—Hannah… was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and… will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life.”… and the Lord remembered her.—We do not know what to pray for as we ought.—He chose our heritage for us.
9 After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the LORD. 10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly. 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
19 They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her.
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Christ, who is the image of God.
“The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.”—No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known…. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.—“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”—He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.—He was manifested in the flesh.
In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.—Those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only SonOr only One, or unique One">1 from the Father, full of grace and truth.
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”—Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.—The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.
We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God.
11 And Asa cried to the LORD his God, “O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”
31 As soon as the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is the king of Israel.” So they turned to fight against him. And Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; God drew them away from him.
16 The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. 17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance.
He chose our heritage for us.—“He encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions, the Lord alone guided him, no foreign god was with him.”
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.”—“Who is a teacher like him?”
We walk by faith, not by sight.—Here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.—Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.—“Arise and go, for this is no place to rest, because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction.”
10 “He found him in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; he encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. 11 Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions, 12 the LORD alone guided him, no foreign god was with him.
17 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.

As he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”—Share his holiness.
God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.—Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,… without spot or blemish.

“Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”—Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
It is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.—By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him…. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God.—We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
You were dead in the trespasses and sins…. [God] made us alive together with Christ.—He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.

“Thus says the Lord: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.”—“I will instruct you in the good and the right way.”—“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”—“Follow me.”
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.—“The gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”
And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.—“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord.”
“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?”
23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way.

Jesus wept.—A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief…. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.
“The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”… For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.—May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.—“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God.
And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”—Without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
He who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead.—Fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him…. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up…. Pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.—Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.—Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.

Isaiah 53:12; Romans 5:8–9; Romans 6:10; Hebrews 7:24–25; Hebrews 9:28; Hebrews 10:14; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Peter 4:1–2
The death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
He… was numbered with the transgressors.—Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many.—He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.—By a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.—He holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.—While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.
12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,Or with the great">1 and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,Or with the numerous">2 because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Keep yourselves in the love of God.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
The fruit of the Spirit is love.—“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.”—Whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”—God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.—God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
Much in every way.—“Circumcise yourselves to the Lord; remove the foreskin of your hearts.”—“If then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity, then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham.”
Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs.—In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ.—You, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.
Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and… be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and… put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
41 so that I walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies—if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD; remove the foreskin of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds.”
3 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God.
22 to put off your old self,Greek man; also verse 24">1 which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

The curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”—“The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
“Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life…. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me…. Do you take offense at this? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no avail.”
The new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh… let us draw near.
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.
61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this?62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”
He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.—“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
It was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners.—That you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation.
“Jesus of Nazareth… went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”—So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.—“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”—The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.—Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.—As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing.—More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings.
10 Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

“Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?”—There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.—“Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy.”—“Hallowed be your name.”
“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people.”
Who is this who comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah, he who is splendid in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.”—“I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people.”

The dew of Hermon.
Mount Sirion (that is, Hermon).—There the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.—I will be like the dew to Israel; he shall blossom like the lily; he shall take root like the trees of Lebanon.
“May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb.”—“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
[God] gives the Spirit without measure.—And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.—It is like the precious oil on the head… on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.”—Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm.—The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.
“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.—If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?—Whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion come speedily to meet us…. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name's sake!—“Though our iniquities testify against us, act, O Lord, for your name's sake; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you.”… We acknowledge our wickedness, O Lord, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you.
If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.
17 And now, please let the power of the Lord be great as you have promised, saying, 18 ‘The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’

Sanctification by the Spirit.
Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow.
For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment!—(for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”—God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace.
In a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.
All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.

You shall be called the priests of the Lord; they shall speak of you as the ministers of our God.—Priests of God and of Christ.

“The ear tests words as the palate tastes food.”
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.—“Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”—I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say.—Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… in all wisdom.—“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says.”—The spiritual person judges all things.
“Pay attention to what you hear.”—“I know your works… and how you… have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.”—Test everything; hold fast what is good.—“He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Death and life are in the power of the tongue.—The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. Psalm 42:1–2; Song of Solomon 8:14; Isaiah 25:9; Isaiah 64:1; Philippians 3:20; 1 Timothy 1:1; Titus 2:13; 1 Peter 1:8; 3 John 14; Revelation 22:20
I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.
Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down.—As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?—Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.—Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.—God our Savior and… Christ Jesus our hope.—Though you have not seen him, you love him.
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!—It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

Psalm 149:4; Proverbs 8:31; Song of Solomon 7:10; John 15:13; John 17:12; Romans 8:38–39; Romans 14:8; 1 Corinthians 6:20; Ephesians 2:4; 2 Timothy 1:12
I am my beloved's, and his desire is for me.
I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.—For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.—“I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost.”
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people.—“Delighting in the children of man.”—The great love with which he loved us.—“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.”
You were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.—If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me.Or what I have entrusted to him; Greek my deposit">1

“You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.”—“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.—By the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.—I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.—That through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
18 “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
16 Seek and read from the book of the LORD: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the LORD has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.
4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,
“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”—“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”—In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”—Our sufficiency is from God.
“Lead us not into temptation.”—I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.—My times are in your hand.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Evening:
Genesis 2:18; Job 6:25; Ecclesiastes 4:9–10; Malachi 3:16; Matthew 18:19; Romans 14:13; Galatians 6:1–2; Hebrews 10:24; 2 Peter 3:1
Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.
“How forceful are upright words!”—I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder.
Those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name.—“Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone.”—Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
Let us… decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.—Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ…. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
16 Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another. The LORD paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the LORD and esteemed his name.
13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
6 Brothers,Or Brothers and sisters; also verse 18">1 if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Can the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of a tyrant be rescued? For thus says the Lord: “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken, and the prey of the tyrant be rescued, for I will contend with those who contend with you…. Then all flesh shall know that I am the Lord your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”—Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.—Because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.—The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.
23 The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; 24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.

20 And I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, declares the LORD.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
You have tasted that the Lord is good.
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water… beholding your power and glory.—My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.—My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
When I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.—“They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”—They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.—“My people shall be satisfied with my goodness, declares the Lord.”
A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Morning:
Matthew 10:24–25; John 13:13; John 15:20; John 17:14; Hebrews 12:1–4; 1 Peter 4:1
“A disciple is not above his teacher.”
“You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.”
“It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master.”—“If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.”—“I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.—Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking.

20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Do Not Grow Weary
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. 4 In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
4 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh,Some manuscripts add for us; some for you">1 arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
“Oh that they had such a mind as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever!”
“Your heart is not right before God.”—For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
They gave themselves first to the Lord.—And every work that [Hezekiah] undertook,… seeking his God, he did with all his heart, and prospered.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life…. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord.—As servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man.
I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!
29 Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendantsOr sons">1 forever!
21 And every work that he undertook in the service of the house of God and in accordance with the law and the commandments, seeking his God, he did with all his heart, and prospered.
7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man,
“I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.”
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.—We have all become like one who is unclean.—I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.—You have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.—Not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but… the righteousness from God that depends on faith.
“Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him.”—The fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.—I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness.
10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
4 And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.”
22 But the father said to his servants,Or bondservants">1 ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.
9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old selfGreek man; also as supplied in verse 10">1 with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Evening:
Jeremiah 32:18–19; John 5:22; John 5:27; Romans 2:16; Romans 14:10; Romans 14:12–13; 1 Corinthians 3:13; 1 Corinthians 4:5
The Day will disclose it.
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God…. So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer.
God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.—“The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son…. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.”
“O great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts, great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man, rewarding each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.”
18 You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is the LORD of hosts, 19 great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man, rewarding each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Do Not Cause Another to Stumble
13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
Morning:
Psalm 51:3–4; Isaiah 44:22; Ezekiel 36:25; Luke 15:20; Romans 3:26; Ephesians 4:32; 1 John 1:9; 1 John 2:12; 1 John 5:6; Revelation 3:4
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight.
“And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”—I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you.—Your sins are forgiven for his name's sake.—God in Christ forgave you.—So that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean.”—“They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.”
This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood.
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.
20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
Evening:
Psalm 94:20; John 14:30; Ephesians 2:2; Ephesians 6:12; Hebrews 7:26; 1 John 1:3; 1 John 3:2–3; 1 John 5:18–19
Can wicked rulers be allied with you?
Indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.—Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
“The ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me.”—A high priest, holy, innocent, unstained.
We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.—The prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.
We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
